Fenland Culture Fund

With thanks to the Fenland Culture Fund, we were able to create this new piece of artwork in Centenary Green! With one of Octavia’s most famous quotes on it, it embodies her ideal for creating open spaces for everyone.

“We all want quiet. We all want beauty… we all need space.”

Thankyou to Sally from Shedders and Fixers for organising the team – Shedder Mick and Tam Engineering’s Curtis; and to our volunteers, Keith and Val who do the gardens, and Roger (behind the camera!) also of course Trustee David for the idea and writing the application. We invited the local National Trust property and Stephen popped over the river to see.

Our tenants Tangent did the grounds work and while they couldn’t join us for the photoshoot, they can see it every day from the vantage point of their offices! Thanks all.

The people mentioned in the post are standing behind a rusted english oak leaf with the inscribed words
Mick (Shedders), Val (House), David (House), Sally (Shedders), Curtis (Tam), Keith (House), Stephen (Peckover), Lorena (House)

Sign saying:
Octavia Hill was born in Wisbech in 1838. She helped improve the lives of thousands of poor people in London and nationally by providing affordable housing. She believed that the quality of their lives also depended upon access to open spaces and to the arts. This led to her co-founding the National Trust in 1895
